Notts County’s new midfield weapon: who is Darius Lipsiuc?
Notts County have completed the signing of Stoke City midfielder Darius Lipsiuc on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee. The 20-year-old Republic of Ireland Under-21 international arrives with National League experience after scoring eight goals in 33 appearances on loan at Solihull Moors last season.
Lipsiuc, who began his career with St Patrick’s Athletic, is described by the club’s director of football as a dynamic presence in midfield. Richard Montague told the club’s website that Lipsiuc is “a powerful, athletic and aggressive midfielder who’s capable of scoring goals and playing in a number of roles, either in the middle or out wide.”
Montague added that the new signing will inject energy and exuberance into the squad, highlighting his potential for development during his contract. “Darius will bring lots of energy and exuberance to the squad and we feel he has the potential to develop significantly over the duration of his contract,” he said.
The move is part of Notts County’s ongoing squad-building under Montague’s direction. The club has previously indicated a preference for young, athletic midfielders with versatility, and Lipsiuc fits that profile after his standout loan spell at Solihull Moors.
At 20, Lipsiuc remains eligible for the Republic of Ireland Under-21 setup, where he has already made his mark. His inclusion adds depth to Notts County’s midfield options as they prepare for the 2024-25 season.
The transfer was finalised in June 2024, with Lipsiuc set to feature for Notts County until June 2027. The club has not disclosed the financial terms of the deal, which is standard practice for transfers involving lower-league clubs.
Notts County’s recruitment strategy under Montague has increasingly focused on young talent with first-team experience, and Lipsiuc’s arrival continues that trend. His ability to play in multiple midfield positions could provide tactical flexibility for manager.
