Koeman texts agent after World Cup exit, talks slated for Tuesday
Rob Jansen, the agent of Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman, received a text message from Koeman immediately after the Dutch side’s elimination from the World Cup, indicating the coach wanted to talk. The message set a meeting for Tuesday, marking the first public indication that Koeman is seeking a discussion about his next steps.
In the WEEKAA Call featuring Kieft, Jansen, Egmond and Gijp, former striker Wim Kieft said he expects Koeman will leave his role as Netherlands coach. Jansen immediately countered, revealing that Koeman had already reached out. He said, “I have a meeting with him shortly. He will call soon. That's not a joke. He texted last night that he wants to talk. So as soon as time allows we will talk together.”
Jansen clarified that Koeman wants to “discuss what to do,” but he did not disclose what counsel he will offer. The planned discussion is scheduled for Tuesday, pending availability.
Koeman's exit after World Cup flop puts Dutch future in doubt
The Netherlands were knocked out after a 1‑1 draw with Morocco, losing on penalties. The outcome sparked immediate speculation about Koeman’s future, which he declined to address at the subsequent press conference. Koeman is also coping with a serious family matter: his 65‑year‑old wife Bartina Koeman is undergoing treatment for metastatic breast cancer. She receives treatment each week. Jansen argued that it is unfair to place sole responsibility on the coach for tactical choices. He noted that assistants Wim Jonk, Ruud van Nistelrooij and Erwin Koeman sit on the bench, and that the squad contains world‑class players, meaning decisions are never made by a single individual. A new episode of Studio Oranje now reviews Koeman’s tenure and the Dutch national team’s final balance.
