Jordan Teze's World Cup hopes dashed by Koeman's selection

Jordan Teze, the versatile defender who featured for AS Monaco this season, was omitted from the Netherlands' World Cup squad despite hoping for a call‑up from coach Ronald Koeman. The Dutch midfielder, who debuted in June 2022 and has earned four caps, said he had expected a small chance.

Teze told NPO's Mixed Zone that he had worked for a World Cup place for many years and knew his end‑season goal. He added that, although he was proud of his season, the invitation never materialised.

Jozo, Teze's brother and a rapper, argued that his sibling could add quality to the national side, calling him one of Europe's best passers. He said Teze's ability to split defences with his passes addresses a problem the Dutch team often faces.

FootballPrimeur editor‑in‑chief Dennie van Laar described Teze as a multifunctional, complete player who has also operated as a number six. He noted that Teze does not bow down to fellow midfielders Lutsharel Geertruida and Mats Wieffer.

Throughout the campaign in the Principality, Teze was a regular starter for AS Monaco, appearing as right back, centre back and defensive midfielder. His adaptability allowed the club to deploy him across the back line and midfield as needed.

Teze earned his first cap for the Netherlands in June 2022 and has accumulated four senior appearances to date. Despite his limited international experience, he remained confident in his contribution to the national team.
