Brighton bolsters midfield with Swiss veteran Lia Wälti
Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of 33‑year‑old Swiss international midfielder Lia Wälti, announced on the club’s website earlier today. The midfielder arrives from Juventus after a season in Italy, adding depth to the Seagulls’ squad for the upcoming campaign.
During her single season with Juventus, Wälti helped the club secure the Serie A Women’s Cup and the Supercoppa Italiana.
She is best known for a seven‑year spell at Arsenal, where she made 183 appearances across all competitions and collected the Barclays Women’s Super League title, the UEFA Women’s Champions League and two Subway Women’s League Cups.
On the international stage, Wälti has earned 140 caps for Switzerland and scored five goals.
Brighton & Hove Albion boss Dario Vidošić said, “Lia is a huge addition to the team ahead of the new season. She brings a similar leadership profile to the group as Fran Kirby – a huge amount of experience at the very top end of the game, with silverware to show for it.”
The signing marks Brighton’s fourth acquisition of the summer window and signals the club’s intent to reinforce its midfield with proven experience.
