Bayern’s €55m gamble on Brown bolsters defence and midfield
Bayern Munich have secured the signing of 23‑year‑old German left‑back Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt, paying a reported €55 million and tying him to a contract until June 2031, a move that deepens the club’s defensive and midfield options ahead of the upcoming season.
Max Eberl, Bayern’s board member for sport, said, “He made his mark at the World Cup and showed why we’ve been looking at him for a while. He’ll expand our options in both defence and midfield.”
Nathaniel Brown was born in Bavaria to a German mother and an American father, giving him the option to represent the United States, but he chose to stay with Germany. He was a key part of the Germany under‑21 side that lost the European Championship final to England last year and affirmed his desire to remain with the German national team.
He was the first‑choice left back for Germany at the World Cup, and emerged from the tournament with an enhanced reputation after the team’s shock exit to Paraguay in the round of 16. Brown has now made eight appearances for the senior national side.

Brown joined Eintracht Frankfurt from Nuremberg for €3.5 million in 2024. During his time at Frankfurt he scored seven goals in 75 competitive matches and featured in eight Champions League games last season. Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche said, “Nene has made impressive progress at Eintracht Frankfurt. We obviously would have liked him to stay with us, but he also expressed a desire to take the next step in his career.” Bayern’s second signing of the off‑season is Ismael Saibari, who arrived from PSV Eindhoven. The club also highlighted concerns about injuries to Canada star Alphonso Davies as a factor behind strengthening the left‑back position. Brown said, “It means so much to me to have the chance to play for this club and it fills me with pride. I also come from Bavaria, which makes it even more special.” He added that coach Vincent Kompany “showed me how he sees me and my development and absolutely convinced me.” The 23‑year‑old will join Bayern’s squad as it prepares for the new campaign. His contract runs until June 2031, providing the club with long‑term depth at left back.
