Wolves and West Brom urged to sign free‑agent March

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball ·

Solly March, the 32‑year‑old former Brighton winger, remains a free agent as the summer transfer window closes, and both Wolves and West Brom have been singled out as clubs that should act now to secure his services before the Championship campaign begins.

March spent 15 years at Brighton before injuries, including two ACL tears, saw his Premier League reliability fade and left him on the free‑agent scrap heap ahead of the \u2026‑27 season. He told talkSPORT, "It's a strange situation for me. I've never been in this situation before, I've always been at Brighton. It's a bit of the unknown really, not having a club. I'm just waiting for the right opportunity. But I'm fit, which is the main thing for me, and I'm feeling good." He added, "I still think I've got the quality... I'm feeling good, the best I have in two years. Just waiting for the right chance and I think patience is the key."

Wolves are currently short on wide options after the untimely injury to summer recruit Rafiki Said. The reported £7.7 million signing was forced off after 20 minutes of a friendly against Maidenhead, with scans revealing an MCL injury that will keep him out for at least two months. This leaves the club light on the flanks as they prepare for a demanding Championship season.

New boss Cesar Peixoto has been trialling a 4‑3‑3 system in pre‑season, and March could provide valuable cover while Said recovers. Although March may not possess blistering pace, his experience and consistent end‑product could supply quality service to striker Raul Jimenez, a key factor if Wolves aim to return to the Premier League.

West Brom also lack depth after the free‑transfer exits of Karlan Grant and Jed Wallace, leaving only senior wingers Mikey Johnston and academy graduate Ollie Bostock on the books. Isaac Price and Jayson Molumby have also filled in on the flanks, but the Baggies need more creativity to boost their goal output for a promotion push.

Defender Alfie Gilchrist is reportedly in talks with League One side Leyton Orient, highlighting West Brom's willingness to reshape the squad. March’s left‑foot ability to deliver dangerous shots and pinpoint crosses could complement emerging attackers Aune Heggebo and Barney Stewart, offering the club a much‑needed injection of width.

Wages could become the main stumbling block for any move, meaning March may need to be pragmatic about his salary expectations if he wishes to play in the Championship.

Clubs throughout the EFL pyramid will be eyeing further business as the summer transfer window ticks down. The Championship season kicks off in just under two weeks, and all second‑tier teams have until 1 September to bolster their squads before the window slams shut, making the timing crucial for both Wolves and West Brom.
