Why Standard Liège turned to Alexis Trouillet for their midfield
Standard Liège have secured the signing of French midfielder Alexis Trouillet from Rodez on a two-year contract with a one-year option. The 25-year-old arrives at Sclessin with Ligue 2 experience from last season, where he featured in 23 matches across all competitions despite a lengthy injury lay-off.
Trouillet’s technical quality and game vision align with the demands of the Jupiler Pro League, where Standard Liège aim to strengthen their midfield options. His arrival follows a season in which he provided one assist in Ligue 2, demonstrating his ability to contribute in a competitive environment.
In a club statement, Trouillet said: « After a very good season with Rodez, it was the project at Standard Liège that attracted me. I feel ready for this new challenge and want to help the club reach its objectives. I am also very much looking forward to meeting my new teammates and the passionate Liège supporters. »
The transfer was officially confirmed by Standard Liège on Tuesday evening, though financial details remain undisclosed. The agreement covers Trouillet’s services until 2028, with an additional year exercisable at the club’s discretion.
Trouillet’s versatility allows him to operate centrally or in an advanced role, a profile Standard Liège have targeted to bolster their squad. His career includes stints at Nice, Panathinaïkos, Auxerre and Volos FC before joining Rodez in February 2025. He made his professional debut with Nice in August 2020, replacing Khéphren Thuram.
His Ligue 2 output last season—23 appearances and one assist—underscores his readiness for a step up. The Frenchman combines technical ability, progressive passing and line-breaking runs, qualities that fit the club’s ambitions.
Transfer analyst Sacha Tavolieri revealed an agreement had been reached between Rodez, Standard Liège and the player. Tavolieri also noted that Standard Liège are monitoring Yassine Kechta, though this remains unconfirmed.
Trouillet becomes the latest French talent to join Standard Liège, adding midfield depth as the Rouches target competitive progress. His integration at Sclessin will be closely watched as the club looks to build on recent form.
Standard Liège have not yet announced a date for Trouillet’s medical or official unveiling. Club channels have invited supporters to sign up for updates via the official newsletter.
The move reflects Standard Liège’s ambition to reinforce their squad ahead of the new season, with Trouillet’s arrival adding competition and quality in midfield as they pursue their Jupiler Pro League objectives.
