When celebrations clash: Palmer warns Rogers over copycat move

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball ·

Cole Palmer, the number ten for Chelsea, joked on Tuesday that he would take legal action if new signing Morgan Rogers repeats his trademark celebration for the Blues. In a press conference, Palmer warned that any imitation could see a bailiff at Rogers' door, underscoring the playful rivalry between the two former Manchester City academy teammates.

The headline "COLD PALMER É GELADO DEMAIS!" captured the mood, echoing the phrase that has become synonymous with Palmer's frosty goal pose. Rogers, who also celebrates by pretending to be cold, first displayed the move while playing for Middlesbrough, a week after Palmer debuted it in Chelsea's December 2023 win over Luton Town.

Both players grew up together in Manchester City’s youth set‑up, forging a close friendship that survived their 2023 departures. A shortage of space at City sent Rogers to Middlesbrough and Palmer to Chelsea, where each now seeks to imprint his own style on the pitch.

During the briefing, Palmer said, "Eu registrei a comemoração como . Então, se o Morgan Rogers tentar fazer alguma coisa, vai ter oficial de justiça na porta da casa dele," translating to "I registered the celebration as a trademark. So if Morgan Rogers tries anything, a bailiff will be at his door." He added, "Brincadeiras à parte, provavelmente vamos fazer a comemoração juntos," meaning they will likely celebrate together in the future.

Rogers, 23, arrived at Chelsea after a €137.5 million transfer (approximately R$ 804 million), making him the fourth‑most expensive signing in football history. His previous stint at Aston Villa included a Europa League triumph last season and a World Cup appearance for England, where he featured in four matches and assisted Gordon in the semifinal against Argentina.

Rogers' career began in the West Bromwich and Manchester City academies, but he never broke into Guardiola’s plans. He spent loan spells at Lincoln City, Bournemouth, Blackpool and Middlesbrough before the Aston Villa deal that propelled him to the spotlight.

The playful exchange highlights how personal quirks can become brand‑like symbols in modern football, especially when two former City teammates now represent rival clubs in the Premier League.
