Verweij says PSV ‘Ze willen hem graag huren’ – loan push for Geertruida
PSV Eindhoven are looking to plug a defensive hole left by Myron Boadu’s exit by targeting Dutch international Lutsharel Geertruida, with club officials saying they would prefer a loan from RB Leipzig despite the German side’s €20 million price tag, Mike Verweij revealed Vandaag at 16:43.
Thursday, the Eindhovenaren confirmed they are keen to bring the Oranje‑international back to Nederland. Mike Verweij disclosed the intention during the Kick‑off segment of De .
Verweij linked the departure of Myron Boadu to PSV’s need for funds to strengthen the defensive line. The club announced on Wednesday that it will not offer Boadu a new contract after he maintained his condition in Eindhoven. He added that PSV already have Plea, Pepi and Guus Til, who can operate as a false striker, explaining the focus on a defender.
Lutsharel Geertruida is being named explicitly as the target, with Verweij noting that colleague Jeroen Kaptijns has already placed a phone call. He emphasized that Ze willen hem graag huren, meaning PSV would prefer to rent the 26‑year‑old defender rather than purchase him outright.
RB Leipzig is reportedly asking for a sum of twenty million euros for Geertruida, a figure Verweij described as very high. Feyenoord has also entered the race for the 26‑year‑old, adding competition to PSV’s pursuit.
Verweij concluded that Peter Bosz’s selection could benefit from added defensive impulses after observing PSV’s recent friendly, which he described as defensively very weak. He cautioned that the loan deal is unlikely to be finalised today, but left open the possibility of completion later in the transfer period.
