Two-year deal fuels Boston United’s summer recruitment surge
Boston United have secured Ben Hammond on a two-year contract after his release from Nottingham Forest, where the 21-year-old spent 13 years progressing through the club’s junior and youth ranks. The midfielder’s signing marks the latest addition to a busy summer transfer window for the English lower-league side.
Hammond never featured for Forest’s first team during his tenure. He did, however, appear for the club’s Under-21 side in the English Football League Trophy. Those appearances provided him with limited senior-level exposure before his departure.
The 21-year-old rose through Nottingham Forest’s junior and youth programmes before establishing a place in the reserves. His development spanned thirteen years within the club’s structure. Despite the lengthy apprenticeship, a breakthrough into the senior squad remained elusive.
Boston United announced that Hammond becomes their tenth signing of the summer. The club’s recruitment drive has intensified as they prepare for the forthcoming campaign. Each new arrival aims to bolster a squad that has undergone significant turnover.
Hammond’s move reflects the broader trend of lower-division clubs capitalising on released academy products. By offering a two-year deal, Boston United secure a player with a solid developmental background without a transfer fee. Such strategies allow clubs to rebuild cost-effectively while providing opportunities for young talent to gain regular football.
