Twente miss out as Kerk chooses Turkish adventure in top flight

Twente have been looking to add pace to their forward line, and the club identified Gyrano Kerk as a prime target. However, the 30‑year‑old striker signed a contract with Turkish side Erzurumspor FK, leaving the Dutch side without their desired reinforcement.

Today Gyrano Kerk completed a deal with Erzurumspor FK, the champions of Turkey's second division. The contract marks his first permanent move to a Turkish club.

Erik ten Hag and FC Twente had both placed Kerk high on their wish‑lists, signalling a clear interest in the former FC Utrecht attacker. Their pursuit highlighted a perceived need for a quick, goal‑scoring option.

Despite the Dutch interest, Kerk decided to embark on a new adventure in Turkey, opting to join Erzurumspor rather than stay in the Netherlands.

Kerk arrived at Erzurumspor after leaving Royal Antwerp FC, ending a four‑year spell in Belgian football. His departure closed the Belgian chapter of his career.

Earlier in his career he spent two seasons with Lokomotiv Moscow, seven seasons with FC Utrecht and a loan spell at Helmond Sport, showing a varied experience across Europe.

The Surinamese international could have counted on further Dutch interest, but he chose to leave those options aside in favour of the Turkish offer.

Erik ten Hag therefore remains without the forward he had hoped to secure, keeping his desired reinforcement out of the squad.

Erzurumspor FK now face the challenge of maintaining their place in Turkey's top tier, relying on Kerk to help the club consolidate its status after promotion.
