Strasbourg’s search narrows to Kjetil Knutsen or Wilfried Nancy

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball Editorial ·

RC Strasbourg Alsace have turned to Norway in their search for a new manager, with FK Bodø/Glimt’s Kjetil Knutsen among the final two candidates. Reports from L’Équipe indicate that advanced talks are underway between the French club and the 57-year-old Norwegian, whose side impressed in European competition under his guidance. Knutsen led Bodø/Glimt to the UEFA Europa League in 2025, where they were eliminated by Tottenham Hotspur, and also guided them through the Champions League last season. Strasbourg’s pursuit follows the departure of Gary O’Neil, who left for Ipswich Town at the end of last month.

Wilfried Nancy, formerly of Celtic, has emerged as the primary alternative after Onze Mondial reported on Monday that he was the favourite to replace O’Neil. The Frenchman’s name was initially highlighted as the leading candidate, but the situation has since shifted. A separate report by Sacha Tavolieri suggested former Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank was the frontrunner, though it has since been reported that the Dane may not be looking to return to management this summer.

With Frank seemingly out of the running, L’Équipe understands that only two candidates remain in Strasbourg’s search. Knutsen’s profile has gained traction due to his recent achievements at Bodø/Glimt, where his team’s European performances have drawn attention. The Norwegian’s ability to navigate both the Europa League and Champions League has made him a compelling option for the Alsace-based club.

The contrast in Strasbourg’s shortlist reflects a broader trend in managerial appointments this summer. While Nancy represents continuity with his experience in the British leagues, Knutsen embodies a more adventurous choice, backed by his success in Norway’s top flight and European competition. The decision now hinges on which profile Strasbourg prioritises as they seek to rebuild under new leadership.

Luke Entwistle of GFFN contributed to the reporting on this developing situation.
