Real Madrid moved to fill the void left by Gonzalo Garcia, whose departure to Fulham for at least €40 million created a clear need for a tall, goal‑scoring striker. By activating a €25 million release clause, the Spanish giants announced the signing of 21‑year‑old Carlos Espí on Thursday evening, confirming the deal via their official channels.

Espí spent three seasons with Levante, debuting as a professional in 2024 and amassing 66 appearances. In those matches he found the net 20 times and was honoured by La Liga as the best player under 23 for the 2023‑24 season. His 1.94‑metre frame and proven record make him an attractive option for clubs seeking a target man.

During the summer, several Premier League sides expressed interest in the forward. Brighton & Hove Albion appeared close to securing his signature, while Aston Villa and Ipswich Town were also reported to be in the race for the Spanish striker. The interest underscored his rising profile across Europe.

The contract signed with Real Madrid runs for five years, binding Espí until the summer of 2031. Previously, he was contracted to Levante until 2028, with a €25 million buy‑out clause that the club triggered to complete the transfer.

At 1.94 metres, Espí is positioned as a centre‑forward, a role that Real Madrid expects to fill following Garcia’s exit. The deal also reflects the club’s strategy of securing young talent with proven domestic performance.

The €25 million clause activation makes Espí the successor to Gonzalo Garcia, whose move to Fulham was valued at a minimum of €40 million. This financial commitment highlights Real Madrid’s intent to reinforce their attacking options.
