Skubala eyes striker while McNally returns to training at Bristol City

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball Editorial ·

[Getty Images] Bristol City manager Michael Skubala announced on Thursday that the club expects to sign a new striker within the next seven days, as the Robins aim to bolster their attack after Sinclair Armstrong’s move to Turkish side Goztepe in the summer window.

The Robins are looking to "ideally" bring in two extra forwards during the summer transfer window, a plan prompted by the departure of Sinclair Armstrong and the fact that only Birmingham City and Swansea scored fewer goals than City, which managed 59 in the top 13 of the Championship last season.

Bristol City have already added young prospect Billy O'Neill, and winger Yu Hirakawa has returned from a promotion‑winning loan spell with Hull City, further expanding the squad’s options.

Skubala said, "I think we are close and we are hopeful we will get that done in the next seven days, if not before," adding that James Ellis, the club's sporting director, and Charlie Boss, the chief executive, have been "really supportive in doing some business early."

Defender Luke McNally is back training with the squad, but Skubala confirmed he is "far off being seen in a Bristol City shirt" as the Irishman continues his recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury that has kept him out since February 2025.

Securing a new striker will give the Robins different attacking profiles and address the goal‑scoring shortfall highlighted by their low tally, while the incoming forward will gain an opportunity to join a club actively reshaping its forward line.
