Salford gamble on Guyana captain Elliot Bonds to boost promotion push
At 26, Guyana captain Elliot Bonds has signed a multi‑year deal with Salford City for an undisclosed fee, moving from Fleetwood Town. The 26‑year‑old London‑born midfielder arrives as they push for promotion this season in League Two and is expected to provide leadership on and off the pitch.
Salford City identified a need for a seasoned midfield presence to complement their attacking options and to provide leadership on and off the pitch. The club believes Bonds can fill that role.
Bonds, the captain of the Caribbean nation Guyana, offers both international experience and a proven record of consistency in English football. His earlier spells at Dagenham & Redbridge, Cheltenham Town and Kidderminster Harriers helped him develop the resilience required for League Two.
Bonds joined Fleetwood Town in 2024 and quickly earned the supporters' player of the season award in his first campaign. His impact was further recognised when he was named captain last year.
Salford secured the midfielder for an undisclosed fee, confirming a multi‑year agreement that reflects their long‑term planning. The contract underscores the club's commitment to building a core group capable of sustaining a promotion challenge.
Speaking to the club website, Bonds said, "I've heard great things about pre‑season, the new manager and his coaching team." He added, "With the team we're building, with players with heart like myself that we're signing, I think this season is one where we have to go one step further."
Salford now turns its focus to pre‑season preparations, where the new manager will integrate Bonds into the tactical setup. The club will also need to navigate the competitive nature of League Two, where consistency remains a key hurdle.
