Real Madrid's academy sales near €200m as García heads to Fulham

Real Madrid have agreed to sell academy striker Gonzalo García to Fulham for €40 million plus €2 million in bonuses. The English club will acquire 70 % of his sporting rights while Real Madrid retain the remaining 30 % and a preferential buy‑back clause.

Real Madrid view the move as an ideal opportunity for García to continue his development. Retaining a share of his rights also allows Los Blancos to generate future income should he be sold again.

Cesar Palacios is also expected to join Fulham, with the deal valued between €8 million and €10 million including performance‑related bonuses. Like García’s transfer, Real Madrid will keep a percentage of Palacios’ rights and a preferential future option.

AS reported that these two transfers bring the academy’s summer income close to €200 million, surpassing the previous record of €102 million set in the summer of 2017. The figure had already exceeded that benchmark before García’s deal was finalised.

To date, academy departures this window have generated approximately €175.5 million. Nico Paz alone fetched €60 million, while Victor Munoz, Mario Gila, Alvaro Rodriguez, Alex Jimenez, Fran Garcia, Mario Martin and Victor Valdepenas are among the other players sold.

Forward Jacobo Ortega is close to a move to Strasbourg for around €8 million for 50 % of his rights. Negotiations are also ongoing with Sevilla over goalkeeper Fran González, though talks have slowed over fee and sporting conditions.

If Ortega’s and González’s transfers materialise, Real Madrid’s academy sales could climb to roughly €193.5 million or higher. Reaching the €200 million mark would cement the academy as one of Los Blancos’ greatest financial assets during the summer rebuild.
