Former Newcastle United defender John Anderson confessed he “didn’t know anything” about German coach Matthias Jaissle before his appointment, yet he cautions against writing the 38‑year‑old out as he prepares for the Premier League test at St James’ Park. Emphasising Jaissle’s youth, Anderson said, “we might not know a great deal about him, but he is young so he will be hungry.” He praised the coach’s communication skills and preference for front‑footed football, believing it aligns with supporter expectations.

Anderson noted Jaissle has already lost some of his best players and will need new signings before the transfer window closes. Concluding, he urged, “you most definitely have to give the man an opportunity,” leaving the decision on time and resources unresolved.
