Near-fight ignites Belgium’s drive as Trossard and Tielemans clash

🇧🇪

During the second cooling break of the Belgium‑Senegal clash, Leandro Trossard and Youri Tielemans erupted into a heated argument that nearly turned physical, prompting Nicolas Raskin and Romelu Lukaku to intervene and restore calm on the pitch for both teams.

Nicolas Raskin was the first to step in, separating the two midfielders before Romelu Lukaku joined him with a very firm approach. Their combined effort succeeded in calming the situation and allowing play to continue.

Youri Tielemans later downplayed the incident, calling it “the emotions of the moment.” He added that all players want to win matches and represent their country as best they can.

A few minutes after the dispute, Leandro Trossard delivered a precise pass that met Tielemans’ head, resulting in the equaliser that brought the score to 2‑2. The two players then embraced, a gesture that contrasted sharply with their earlier confrontation.

Belgium coach Rudi Garcia said he appreciated the episode, interpreting it as a sign of the players’ desire to win. He admitted he did not know the exact cause of the argument but welcomed the fighting spirit.

Garcia reflected that when he took charge eighteen months ago, the squad lacked aggression and did not engage enough in duels. He believes that such intensity is essential for achieving results.

The coach concluded that moments of heated emotion are part of football and that maintaining this mindset will make the national side stronger. He expects the team to grow if they can channel that energy into consistent performance.
