Motherwell's two-year gamble on Vogt after Bellinzona drop

🇬🇧

Motherwell have secured 24‑year‑old forward Willy Vogt on a two‑year contract with an optional extra twelve months, announced on the club’s website on Monday. The Brazilian‑born dual citizen leaves Bellinzona after their relegation to the Swiss third tier, joining the Scottish Premiership side under manager Alfred Johansson.

Vogt is the second player signed by manager Alfred Johansson on the same day, following centre‑half Martin Moormann’s arrival. Both acquisitions aim to reinforce Motherwell’s squad after a challenging campaign.

"Willy is an exciting player," Johansson said on the club’s website. He added that Vogt "had an excellent season last year in Switzerland" and will arrive in Scotland "full of confidence."

Vogt recorded 12 goals and seven assists in 32 appearances for Bellinzona, who finished five points adrift at the bottom of the Challenge League. His contribution underscores his impact despite the club’s relegation.

The 24‑year‑old spent his entire career in Switzerland, progressing through the youth systems of Zurich, Basel and Winterthur. He moved to Bellinzona from Schaffhausen last summer after Schaffhausen were relegated to the Swiss Promotion League.

Vogt believes Motherwell’s style will suit his game, he said. "Personally, I had a strong season last year and I hope I can bring that kind of impact to Motherwell," he added.

Johansson expects Vogt’s pace and flair to enhance the team’s attacking options this season. The signing reflects Motherwell’s intent to rebuild after recent setbacks.
