Manchester United vow to block any bid for Bruno Fernandes

Man Utd have announced they will reject any bid for captain Bruno Fernandes before next month’s transfer deadline. The Portuguese midfielder, who netted nine goals and delivered a Premier League record 21 assists last season, remains central to United’s plans, as highlighted by a Getty ImagesImage caption.

His creative output made him favourite for the 2025‑26 PFA Player of the Year award, and supporters showed overwhelming enthusiasm during United’s pre‑season match in Dublin against Leeds. His nine league goals also placed him among United’s top scorers. United’s strong negotiating position and the Red Devils’ desire to retain their talisman underline the club’s determination to keep Fernandes.

Potential suitors and rejected offers

reported last week that Turkish club Galatasaray, alongside Italian giants Juventus and AC Milan, were probing United’s resolve to keep their captain. Galatasaray’s proposed deal was said to total a final fee of 50 million euros (£42.7 million).

Senior United sources dismissed the Turkish offer as a waste of time, and club officials confirmed no bids have materialised for the 31‑year‑old. They added that Fernandes is not for sale at any price.

Last summer United told Fernandes it was his decision whether to join Saudi Pro‑League side Al‑Hilal, a mammoth offer that left the player feeling “hurt”. This time United have made their stance unequivocal.

Contract situation and next steps

Fernandes has one year remaining on his current contract with an option for an additional season, and he has expressed a desire to stay. The £57 million release clause in his deal has now expired, and no extension agreement has been reached.

The club’s clear message, reinforced by the enthusiastic Dublin reception and Fernandes’ record‑breaking 21 assists, suggests United will fight to retain their captain ahead of the PFA Player of the Year ceremony in Manchester next week.
