Liverpool weigh Cody Gakpo sale amid £70m offers

Dave Davis and Lewis Steele discussed Liverpool's potential sale of forward Cody Gakpo during Media Matters on Anfield Index. They said the club could entertain a departure if a suitable offer materialises.

There is no indication that Cody Gakpo has formally requested a move away from Liverpool. Dave Davis cited reports linking Gakpo with a possible exit, while David Lynch noted the Dutch international has not approached Liverpool seeking an exit.

Davis added that Gakpo has been described as “not untouchable” in the current transfer window. Liverpool are not actively seeking to move the forward but would listen to a significant bid. Reports have mentioned figures in the region of £70 million.

Lewis Steele recalled that Bayern had looked at Gakpo last summer before they pursued Diaz. Liverpool extended Gakpo’s contract several months ago after that interest.

Steele described Gakpo’s recent campaign as terrible, despite a strong performance in his latest international appearance. The assessment reflects Liverpool’s broader attacking inconsistencies this season. Steele noted that the assessment comes as manager Andoni Iraola looks to reshape the forward line.

Steele suggested that, if Liverpool need funds for a wider squad rebuild, Gakpo could become a valuable asset. He compared the potential sale to how Liverpool cashed in on Diaz last summer.

Steele warned that losing Gakpo would leave Liverpool very light in terms of attacking numbers. The club is already evaluating major attacking additions, with Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola among the names linked.

Steele concluded that a sale only makes sense if a truly good offer emerges.
