Liverpool Jones at odds with Szoboszlai after win at Yankee Stadium

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball ·

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones found himself in a heated dispute with teammate Dominik Szoboszlai after the Reds' 1‑0 victory over Wrexham at Yankee Stadium on Thursday, a clash that has drawn attention to internal tensions despite the win.

After the full‑time whistle, Jones, Szoboszlai and later Kostas Tsimikas argued while walking across the pitch to applaud supporters. The dispute unfolded as the team left the field at Yankee Stadium.

The exact trigger remains unclear, but during the match Szoboszlai handed his captain’s armband to Tsimikas rather than to Jones when he was substituted. Footage later showed Tsimikas throwing the armband onto the ground.

The incident was captured in a photograph supplied by Getty, with the caption noting ImagesImage and stating that Curtis Jones has been at Liverpool since the age of nine.

Earlier this summer Liverpool turned down a £21.7 million bid from Inter Milan for the 25‑year‑old midfielder. Jones still has one year remaining on his current contract at Anfield.

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola previously stressed his desire to keep Jones, saying “I rate Curtis very highly. For me he is a great, great player, and I hope he can continue with us and continue performing the way he has been performing.”

Liverpool conclude their North American pre‑season tour on Sunday with a 21:00 BST clash against Leeds in Chicago. The upcoming fixture will be the final test before the team returns to England.
