La Marseille crisis deepens as Unique Sports Group steps in

Olympique de Marseille is running out of pasta, rice, even toilet paper as the DNCG orders the club to sell its entire squad. To meet the regulator’s demand, the club has turned to an external agency while new sporting director Grégory Lorenzi searches for solutions, appointing Unique Sports Group, a move reported by La Provence on Tuesday.

The involvement of Unique Sports Group has sparked a wave of activity among Marseille’s executives, player agents and potential buyers. Club officials hope the agency’s network will accelerate player departures required by the DNCG.

The decision to hire Unique Sports Group was taken by close associates of owner Frank McCourt, who rely on the firm’s proven record in player transactions. Their confidence underscores the urgency felt by the Marseille hierarchy to comply with the regulator.

Unique Sports Group previously completed the sale of Jonathan Rowe in the summer of 2025. It also arranged a loan move for Ethan Nwaneri in January, demonstrating its willingness to move talent quickly.

Marseille‑based agents voiced strong displeasure, fearing the loss of their sales mandates. One agent told Canard Provençal, “La stratégie de l’OM est totalement contre‑productive.”

Since the agency’s appointment, no player has actually left the club. Only Bilal Nadir, Hamed Junior Traoré, Mason Greeenwood and Pierre‑Emerick Aubameyang have departed since the transfer window opened.

L’Équipe later announced that Jeffrey De Lange, Nayef Aguerd, Facundo Medina and Igor Paixão are also set to leave. With these names added, Olympique de Marseille still needs to see eleven players exit before the deadline.
