The report says the sudden change in water depth caught the young striker off guard, leading to loss of consciousness.

Medical response and club statement

Italian media disclosed that a CT scan of Trepy’s chest revealed a large amount of fluid in his lungs, complicating oxygen exchange. Doctors intubated him, placed him in an induced coma and keep him under constant monitoring.

CAGLIARI released an official communiqué confirming the player’s admission to the Hospital Santissima Annunziata, noting that the club remains in close contact with medical staff and the family, and urging respect for privacy.

Yael Fritz Junior Trepy, born 20 May 2006, holds French and Italian nationality. A left‑footed centre‑forward who can also operate as a second striker or right winger, he debuted in Serie A in January, scoring the equaliser in a 2‑2 draw with Cremonese. He previously trained with US Créteil‑Lusitanos before joining Cagliari’s academy in 2022 and signed his first professional contract in August 2024.
