In it, the Swedish (Zweedse) right‑hand of Infantino wrote, “It is a sad series of events that is difficult to understand and accept.” The email concerned the cancelled commercial‑rights plan surrounding the World Cup.

Mattias Grafström oversees the daily administrative operations of FIFA. He arrived from UEFA when Gianni Infantino assumed the FIFA presidency ten years ago, and since then he has regularly appeared beside Infantino at major tournaments, becoming a prominent figure within the organisation.

Critics of Infantino have said they are prepared to remove him after his proposal to sell parts of the World Cup rights. Although Grafström is mentioned less often, he is regarded as a key confidant of the president, and his email was intended to calm staff amid rising discontent.

He also assured staff they would be protected from the surrounding political context, stating, “People, turbulent moments and unhappy episodes come and go.” Grafström said his door remains open and that he will continue to support the teams, the work and the mission despite an “extraordinary and challenging” week for FIFA offices worldwide.

CONCACAF joins UEFA in rebuke of Infantino on FIFA Forward Enterprise

Infantino had intended to launch the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), a commercial venture to sell portions of the World Cup to private partners. UEFA reacted angrily, and the same opposition came from CONCACAF, CONMEBOL and the Asian confederation, placing Infantino under intense pressure ahead of the upcoming FIFA elections.
