Groningen loan Swedish defender Malcolm Jeng to fill centre‑back hole

At the Groningen training ground, the club’s scouting staff gathered around a monitor as the name Malcolm Jeng flashed across the screen, signalling the arrival of the 21‑year‑old Swedish (Zweedse) defender on a season‑long loan with an option to buy, a move aimed at shoring up their Eredivisie squad.

De club identified a shortage in central defence and acted quickly to secure Jeng on loan. The addition is expected to strengthen their Eredivisie‑selectie.

The club believes Jeng can fill the void left by recent departures. They expect his presence to add depth for the upcoming season.

Jeng spent the previous season on loan from Stade Reims at Feyenoord Rotterdam. A hamstring injury suffered against Groningen limited his time in South Rotterdam (Zuid‑Rotterdam) to just two appearances.

Stade Reims, which still holds his contract, agreed to a one‑year loan with a purchase option. The French side said there is currently no place for him in Ligue 2.

Groningen’s scouting department flagged Jeng as a reinforcement after he returned to Stade Reims in the summer. The Swedish Expressen reported the club’s interest first.

A medical examination is scheduled this week in the north of the Netherlands. The exam is the final hurdle before the transfer is completed.

If the medical clears, Jeng will sign for FC Groningen and join the squad before the new Eredivisie campaign. The swift deal is presented as beneficial to all parties.
