Germans pull the plug on Ajax’s Anton Gaaei move to Bundesliga

The anticipated transfer of 23‑year‑old Danish defender Anton Gaaei from Ajax to Eintracht Frankfurt in the German Bundesliga has fallen through, with no fee disclosed and negotiations officially terminated after weeks of personal agreement and club‑level talks that proved unproductive.

Ajax remains unable to offload its latest acquisition linked to former technical director Sven Mislintat, a purchase that has yet to yield a departure.

Eintracht Frankfurt displayed serious interest in Gaaei, and the player even reached a personal agreement with the German side.

However, club‑level negotiations proved difficult and have now been terminated.

Ajax secure veteran German keeper Ter Stegen on season‑long loan

Coach Adi Hütter told EintrachtTV that Elias Baum will remain at Eintracht Frankfurt, meaning Gaaei is no longer required.

"Elias Baum stays at Eintracht Frankfurt. We keep him here," Hütter said. "I have said from the start I wanted to form my own judgment on him."

"I see him as a dynamic back. You must give a young player from your own academy a chance if he has the quality, and he does. I hope this gives him confidence," he added.

The decision leaves clubs such as Borussia Dortmund and Hamburger SV, which were also in the race, empty‑handed.

Gaaei appears set to remain at Ajax, where his contract runs until mid‑2028, and he recently scored in a friendly against FC Volendam (1‑3).
