Free move sees Wales keeper Darlow depart Leeds for United
[Getty Images] Karl Darlow, the 35‑year‑old Wales goalkeeper, has joined Manchester United on a free transfer after his Leeds United contract expired on Tuesday. The move marks the end of a three‑year spell at Elland Road.
During his time at Leeds United, Darlow made 38 appearances and kept 10 clean sheets, contributing significantly to the club's performances.
He thanked Leeds supporters for their "incredible backing" in a statement posted on Instagram, expressing gratitude for the fans' passion.
Describing his tenure as a "special chapter," Darlow said he was proud of "Helping this club achieve promotion back to the Premier League" and added, "I'll always be proud of that achievement."
Darlow arrived at Leeds United from Newcastle United in July 2023 for an undisclosed fee, bringing experience to the Whites' squad.
His performances helped the Whites' promotion campaign, playing a role in Leeds securing a place back in the Premier League.
Manchester United secured his services without a transfer fee, adding depth to their goalkeeping roster after his free‑move.
For United, Darlow offers seasoned backup and competition; for Leeds, his departure leaves a veteran presence to be replaced as the club looks ahead.
