Fortuna Sittard gamble on AZ loanee to fill Sierhuis' goal void
AZ Alkmaar have arranged a season‑long loan for 21‑year‑old striker Lequincio Zeefuik to join Eredivisie side Fortuna Sittard, with the move set to begin in the summer. Zeefuik recorded two goals in 30 appearances across his recent spells at OH Leuven and Heracles.
During the 2024/2025 campaign Zeefuik spent six months on loan at Belgian club OH Leuven before completing the season with Dutch side Heracles. Across both assignments he managed two goals in 30 matches, and added one goal in 14 outings for AZ Alkmaar last season.
Fortuna Sittard entered the transfer window having lost striker Kaj Sierhuis, who departed for NEC Nijmegen after his contract expired. Sierhuis had contributed 12 goals for the club in the previous season, leaving a clear scoring gap.
AZ Alkmaar identified Zeefuik as a potential replacement, recalling his reputation as a highly rated teenager from FC Volendam. The Dutch club signed him with a view to future development, seeing his profile as suitable to fill Fortuna’s void.
He welcomed the move as a chance to prove himself. Zeefuik expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The fact that the club showed interest in me at an early stage gives me a lot of confidence. I also felt that during the conversations with the technical director and the head coach. I am going to give everything for the club this coming season and look forward to making it a great and successful season together.”
For Fortuna Sittard, the loan offers a direct avenue to replace the 12‑goal output lost with Sierhuis and to bolster their attacking options. The club hopes Zeefuik’s involvement will translate into a comparable goal tally this season.
AZ Alkmaar, by opting to loan rather than sell, signal belief in Zeefuik’s long‑term potential. Continued game time at Fortuna is expected to aid his development and increase his value for the Dutch side.
