Fiorentina gamble on versatile Valdepenas as Real Madrid retain stake
In Florence, Fiorentina have completed the €8 million transfer of 20‑year‑old defender Victor Valdepenas from Real Madrid, with the Spaniards keeping a 50 percent future‑sale clause, as the Italian side looks to add a player capable of covering both left‑back and centre‑back this season.
The Italian side view Valdepenas as a versatile option who can slot in at left‑back or centre‑back. They cite his aggression, technical skill, tactical awareness and pace as essential qualities to shore up a back line that has lacked depth.
Multiple reports confirmed the €8 million fee. Real Madrid will retain a 50 percent share of any future sale, keeping a financial stake in the youngster’s progress.
Valdepenas expressed his delight, stating “I am super happy to be here.” He added that the training ground is “remarkable” and the city “beautiful.”
The defender, who turns 20 in October, was a member of the Spain squad that captured the European Under‑19 Championship this summer. The achievement underscores his pedigree at youth international level.
Although the agreement was reached weeks earlier, Jose Mourinho asked Real Madrid to retain Valdepenas in their pre‑season squad until other internationals returned from vacation. The request delayed his integration with Fiorentina.
Valdepenas admitted he has not yet explored Florence properly but is eager to meet supporters. He noted a preference for playing on the left side while also being able to operate centrally, signalling his readiness to contribute immediately.
A photo from a LaLiga EA Sports match shows Valdepenas of Real Madrid duelling with Lucas Boye of Deportivo Alaves in Vitoria‑Gasteiz, Spain, on 14 December 2025. The image illustrates his experience in high‑profile fixtures and links the EA brand to his recent activity.
