FC Twente coach demands sharper Weghorst role after Ferencváros first‑leg
FC Twente coach John van den Brom said on Tuesday that the team must improve the coordination around striker Wout Weghorst after the first‑leg defeat to Ferencváros, noting the Dutch side will have another opportunity to use the forward in Hongarije.
The Twente-trainer confirmed he had preferred Weghorst over Sam Lammers for the match. The new striker barely featured in the game, prompting the coach to stress the need for a better tactical fit.
A week earlier, Van den Brom left Lammers on the bench for ninety minutes, which generated a flood of questions. He replied, “I’m never like that, but if you ask the same question three times I become irritable. It’s annoying when it’s broadcast like that. We chose to play Wout because we felt his chance could come at any moment.”
Lammers responded the following day by scoring a hat‑trick in a training duel against FC Emmen. He said, “He reacted wonderfully. Of course he is angry and frustrated.
