Eén suspect arrested after robbery of Mohammed Fuseini in Brussels

Eén suspect has been arrested after a violent street robbery targeted Royale Union Saint‑Gilloise forward Mohammed Fuseini in Brussels on Sunday. The attackers dragged the 24‑year‑old out of his car, seized his Rolex Datejust watch – valued between €8,000 and €14,000 – and fled.

Fuseini was sitting in his parked vehicle when men wearing caps approached him. They tried to snatch his smartphone, but he resisted before being overpowered by five attackers.

Three of the assailants held him in a chokehold while they removed the watch. A fourth accomplice inspected the car, searching for additional valuables before the group fled the scene.

The club released a statement saying the footage from Sunday is “particularly moving”. Fuseini was taken to a hospital for checks, received excellent care from the Brussels police, and, after minor injuries, resumed training yesterday, thanking the authorities for their work.

The Brussels prosecutor’s office (parket) opened an investigation, describing the incident as theft with violence. Initial findings indicate multiple attackers stole watches, phones and other personal items from the victims.

Two other victims suffered injuries that resulted in temporary work incapacity, according to the prosecutor.

One suspect has been identified and arrested. During a house search, items reported stolen were recovered, and the suspect was placed under custody on charges of gang‑related violent theft.

Judicial authorities will continue the investigation to clarify the exact circumstances and identify any additional participants.

Fuseini, a Ghanaian (Ghanese) striker, is a popular figure in the Union dressing room and has been with the club for two years. He previously played for Sturm Graz in Austria and Randers in Denmark before joining Union in the summer of 2024 on a contract that runs until 2028.

In 71 appearances for Royale Union Saint‑Gilloise, Fuseini has scored 14 goals, including the winning goal in a recent cup final against Anderlecht, giving him both a league title and a cup medal. He missed a large part of the season after an ankle injury in pre‑season.
