Dragusin’s Spurs exit: a loan with buy clause and a Serie A fresh start

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball Editorial ·

Tottenham Hotspur defender Radu Dragusin is set to leave North London this summer after a recent update from journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Romanian defender will join Serie A side Fiorentina on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy clause included in his contract. Dragusin’s departure follows a season in which he struggled to secure regular first-team minutes at Spurs.

Dragusin made 11 Premier League appearances for Tottenham last campaign, failing to score or create a goal during his limited game time. His season was further disrupted by a cruciate ligament tear, which ruled him out for a significant period. Despite these challenges, the 24-year-old remains one of Romania’s most promising defensive talents.

The defender is currently contracted to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until 2030, meaning Spurs are under no immediate pressure to sell. However, his lack of first-team opportunities suggests a change of scenery could benefit both player and club. A permanent move to Fiorentina would provide Dragusin with the regular playing time he needs to revive his career.

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi could use any funds generated from Dragusin’s exit to address other squad weaknesses. The club’s financial flexibility may hinge on offloading players who no longer fit their long-term plans. Dragusin’s exit, therefore, aligns with both his personal ambitions and Spurs’ strategic needs ahead of the new season.

At 1.91m tall, Dragusin brings physicality to the defensive third, excelling in aerial duels and ball recovery. His ability to read the game and break up opposition attacks has been noted, though his passing and progressive carries have also drawn praise. Fiorentina’s interest signals their confidence in his potential to develop further in Serie A.
