De Graafschap signs a Duitse striker as goal‑scoring hopes rise

De Graafschap have secured a Duitse striker as they aim to revitalise their attack. 24‑year‑old Julian Kania joins the Doetinchem side on a two‑year deal with an option for a further season, ending his spell with Arminia Bielefeld.

The contract was signed in Doetinchem and runs for two years, giving the club flexibility to extend if the forward proves decisive. Kania arrives after a series of loan moves that left him without a permanent home last season.

Kania is noted for his physical strength and began his senior career in the second team of FC Nürnberg, where he netted 26 goals in the 2022/23 season, finishing as the Bayernliga top scorer. His prolific output earned him attention from clubs higher up the German pyramid.

The following campaign he added 24 goals, topping the Regionalliga Bayern scoring chart. Despite the numbers, a breakthrough into Nürnberg’s first team never materialised.

Arminia Bielefeld then secured his services, and he became the club’s leading marksman with 14 goals during their championship season in the 3. Liga. His contributions helped Bielefeld clinch promotion that year.

When the 2023/24 season began, Kania fell out of Arminia’s plans and spent the campaign on loan at VfL Osnabrück. Across his career he has amassed 79 goals in 166 appearances.

De Graafschap had been hunting for a reliable centre‑forward for an extended period. Earlier this season Bouke Boersma occupied the role for the first half before moving to KV Mechelen for just over €1 million.

After the winter break the striking duties were taken over by Nils Eggens, who arrived on loan from FC Groningen. The club’s search continued as they evaluated options to lead the line.

Kania’s proven goal‑scoring record now offers De Graafschap a long‑term solution to their attacking dilemma, and his impact will be measured in the coming months. The signing signals the club’s intent to compete more aggressively in the Eredivisie.
