World Cup call stalls Senesi’s Tottenham debut, first training arrives

Marcos Senesi finally took part in a Tottenham training session after being added to Argentina’s World Cup squad at the last moment, marking his first on‑field involvement with the club. The defender’s recent months have been described as totally intense.

He left Bournemouth, where he had spent four years, to join Tottenham. However, he missed the preseason because Lionel Scaloni called him up for the national team after Leonardo Balerdi’s injury forced a late‑stage World Cup inclusion.

A month and a half after his transfer was officially confirmed, the former San Lorenzo player was finally able to meet his new teammates at the club.

Following a brief vacation in Concordia, where he was declared an illustrious citizen, Senesi travelled to London to train under head coach Roberto De Zerbi. He was welcomed by Uruguayan Rodrigo Bentancur, who offered him mates while showing the Spurs facilities.

After touring the training centre, Senesi completed gym work alongside his new colleagues, with Bentancur and Senegalese Pape being the most supportive on his first day.

He has made himself available to the coach and hopes to debut in the upcoming friendlies; Tottenham are scheduled to face Chelsea this Saturday, raising the question of whether he will earn minutes.

Notably, he was not greeted by Cuti Romero because he has not returned to regular training while seeking a move in the current transfer market.

Roberto De Zerbi hinted that Senesi may not remain at Tottenham, stating: “After the semifinal against England we exchanged some messages, but I never called him to convince him to stay. I respected what he told me.”

Interest from Inter has also surfaced, with director Piero Ausilio confirming talks with the player’s agent and Tottenham, saying: “We are interested, without doubt, it is true. We talked with the agent and with Tottenham. We will see what happens.”

Barcelona are monitoring the situation as well, though they do not consider him a priority given their recent signings of world‑champion Pau Cubarsí, Eric García, Gerard Martín and Ronald Araújo.
