Vozinha draws 42,000 fans to Monumental for Colo Colo debut

In his first public appearance at Santiago’s Monumental stadium, 40‑year‑old goalkeeper Vozinha arrived to a crowd of 42,000 after being unveiled at a press conference on Tuesday as the new signing for Colo Colo. The event, captured by Reuters, featured musical performances and a parachute delivery of his jersey.

The following day, Wednesday, marked Vozinha’s first public appearance at the Monumental stadium. Although Tano Ortiz’s side had no scheduled match, an estimated 42,000 spectators turned up to celebrate the 40‑year‑old goalkeeper’s arrival.

Vozinha, a World Cup‑experienced keeper, arrived on a free transfer after leaving Chaves, a club competing in Portugal’s Segunda División.

The ceremony featured live music, with DJ Rocka spinning tracks alongside performances by Juan Sativo and the group Garras de Amor.

Mid‑fielder Sebastián Alvarez parachuted onto the pitch to hand the new number‑29 jersey to Vozinha, who was then presented with a collection of trophies.

The stadium lights were briefly switched off before his entrance, creating a spotlight effect as he received a ball and greeted fans on both sides of the arena. He said, “Very happy and grateful from the heart to everyone for the support and affection. Let’s go Colo Colo!”

After the greeting, Vozinha launched balls toward the four corners of the stadium, telling youngsters, “Everything in life is possible. Be humble and hardworking and you will achieve everything in life.” He later departed in a van.

Colo Colo travel to La Calera next Sunday for a Primera División fixture, where Vozinha could make his competitive debut, or possibly on 16 August against O’Higgins, pending confirmation from the coach.
