Christian Burgess eyes Red Devils future with new Belgian passport

Christian Burgess, the central defender now holding a Belgian passport, says he could technically represent the Rode Duivel on the international stage. He discussed the possibility in a interview, noting his deep ties to Belgium after six years with the Brussels side and a season at KAA Gent.

"I am officially Belg," he told , adding, "It feels a bit strange because most of my life I was Brit, but I feel very strongly connected to Belg. My wife is Belgisch, my daughter is Belgisch… She doesn’t even have a British passport yet." The quote also references "Ze" as his daughter.

He admits the paperwork is still pending, saying, "I need to get the administration in order. It’s on my to‑do list, and a big part of me feels Belg." Burgess acknowledges the question of national team selection, noting the possibility of a call from Mark van Bommel for the Duivels, though he believes that window may have closed.

Living in Brussels, Burgess says, "We are very happy in Brussel. We love the lifestyle, we feel at home here. It is absolutely possible that we stay here." He mentions the city’s charm and even references the word "Saint" as part of his former club’s name, reinforcing his connection to Belgian football.
