Cagliari target Harry Winks in €11.6m deal as Leicester plan exit

🇬🇧

Cagliari are poised to secure midfielder Harry Winks from Leicester City after agreeing a €11.6 million transfer fee, as the Foxes' relegation pushes the 30‑year‑old toward a move to sunny Sardinia and could revive his career after a mixed spell in England.

Winks spent the 2022‑23 season on loan at Sampdoria, gaining his first experience of Italian football. He returned to Tottenham Hotspur that summer before being sold to Leicester City for €11.6 million.

Now 30 years old, the England midfielder has also been linked with a possible move to Wrexham. The prospect of living on the island of Sardinia may prove more appealing.

His contract with Leicester City runs until June 2027, meaning the fee could represent a relatively cheap acquisition for Cagliari. The length of the deal also gives the Serie A club flexibility in future negotiations.

Pedullà states that Leicester City and Cagliari have already settled the transfer fee, leaving only personal terms to be finalised. Once agreed, Winks can travel to Italy for his medical and begin pre‑season training with the Sardinian side.

During the current campaign, Winks made 36 competitive appearances for Leicester City, scoring two goals and providing two assists. Those contributions underline his ability to influence games from midfield.

Leicester City's relegation makes retaining the England international unlikely, prompting the club to consider off‑loading assets. Cagliari’s pursuit of Winks reflects a broader trend of Serie A clubs seeking experienced players at reduced prices in a tightening market.
