Brussel assault on Union forward leads to suspect arrest

Mohammed Fuseini, the 24‑year‑old striker of Royale Union Saint‑Gilloise, was the victim of a violent street robbery in Brussel on Sunday, and the public prosecutor has announced the arrest of one suspect linked to the incident.

The attack occurred at around 06:30 on Louizalaan after Fuseini had spent the night at the Bloody Louis’ nightclub. A group of men forced him out of his parked car, seized his smartphone and stole a Rolex Datejust watch valued between €8,000 and €14,000.

According to sources, the footage was captured by Fuseini’s teammate Relebohile Mofokeng, the South African addition to Union, who was with him at the time and filmed the assault from a safe distance.

Police used the video to identify several of the perpetrators and, after a house search, recovered stolen items. One suspect has now been taken into custody and placed under a detention mandate for violent theft committed by a gang.

The Club described the Sunday recordings as “particularly moving,” confirming that Fuseini was taken to a hospital, received excellent care from the Brussel police, and resumed training the following day with only minor injuries.

Fuseini joined Royale Union Saint‑Gilloise in the summer of 2024 on a contract running to 2028. In 71 appearances he has scored 14 goals, including the winning strike in the recent cup final against Anderlecht, adding a league title and a cup to his résumé.

The judicial investigation remains open as authorities continue to clarify the exact circumstances and to identify any additional participants in the assault.
