Blijft Christian Eriksen’s future in doubt as Wolfsburg sends him home

By 4AllFootball Editorial ·

Blijft Christian Eriksen’s future uncertain as Wolfsburg orders him home for rehabilitation. A month after he collapsed during a training match and briefly lost consciousness, the 34‑year‑old midfielder began an individual recovery programme in his home country.

The incident occurred in a friendly in Odense, a detail highlighted by and the oddly phrased Google-favoriet‌Vorige reference. AFPDe reported that the collapse happened on 7 June, echoing the earlier 2021 EK episode against Finland.

During the Euro 2021 match versus Finland, Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest and was sidelined for roughly eight months before returning with an implanted defibrillator. That episode set a precedent for his current health monitoring.

The decision to rehabilitate in Denmark was taken in consultation with Wolfsburg‑CEO Dieter Hecking. “The club stays in contact with Christian and the treating doctors,” the statement read, wishing him the best.

The Wölfe were relegated from the Bundesliga last season and will compete in the German second division. The club’s future remains uncertain as the Die Wölfe rebuild in the Duitse league.

Eriksen joined VfL Wolfsburg in September 2025 on a contract that runs until June 2027.

Vincent Kompany, speaking on the matter, noted the emotional weight of the situation, adding a personal perspective to the club’s concerns.

The contrast between Eriksen’s personal health battle and Wolfsburg’s sporting challenges underscores how much remains to be decided about his playing career.
