Birmingham City and Wrexham intensify race for Romeo Amane

Birmingham City and Wrexham are both actively pursuing 23‑year‑old Rapid Vienna midfielder Romeo Amane, who has made 63 appearances for the Austrian side in the last 18 months. The two clubs have emerged as the Championship’s newest rivalry, each backed by ambitious ownership groups willing to spend beyond most of their peers.

Both clubs rose through League One together, investing heavily to secure promotion and now aim to cement themselves among the division’s elite. Their financial muscle has allowed them to chase players that many other second‑tier sides cannot afford, a trend that continues despite the lack of Premier League parachute payments.

At Rapid Vienna he has added 63 appearances, two goals and four assists, and even featured in a UEFA Champions League qualifying match against FC Santa Coloma before missing the second leg with an ankle sprain. The injury also forced him out of a recent OFB‑Cup clash.
