Atalanta’s Ederson dilemma as Manchester United walk away from €45m deal

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball Editorial ·

Manchester United’s proposed €45m move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson has collapsed after the Premier League club failed to clear the Brazilian’s right knee in medical tests. The two clubs had agreed terms over a month ago, but Ederson did not pass the second phase of examinations in Manchester.

the Red Devils were concerned about the condition of Ederson’s right knee, which did not meet the athletic standards required by the club. The issue arises despite Ederson having undergone arthroscopic surgery on his right meniscus in August last year and subsequently playing 3,169 minutes across all competitions for La Dea.

Ederson featured 30 times in Serie A and nine times in the Champions League last season, ranking as Atalanta’s fourth-highest outfield player in minutes played. The Bergamo-based club insists the Brazilian remains fully fit, dismissing Manchester United’s assessment.

Italian media suggest Manchester United’s change of heart may stem from performances by Roma’s Manu Koné at the World Cup, with the Red Devils now eyeing the Frenchman instead. Corriere dello Sport reports Roma would demand at least €55m for Koné.

Atalanta now face a contract crisis as Ederson’s deal expires in 2027, leaving the Nerazzurri likely to offer him a new agreement unless another club emerges in the coming weeks.

Ederson’s fitness record shows 3,169 minutes played across all competitions last season, including Champions League action against Bayern München in Munich on March 18, 2026.
