Atalanta outpaces Napoli in chase for West Ham’s Todibo

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball ·

Atalanta have placed Jean‑Claude Todibo above Napoli as their primary target, while the 26‑year‑old defender of West Ham United seeks an exit after the Hammers’ relegation from the Premier League. transfer analyst Alfredo Pedullà says the Italian club is moving faster than Napoli, and Olympique Marseille is also monitoring the situation.

The Hammers, as West Ham United are nicknamed, are eager to offload Todibo following their drop from the Premier League, and the defender has confirmed his desire to leave. Multiple clubs, including Atalanta, Napoli and Marseille, are keeping a close eye on his availability.

Atalanta’s interest was highlighted by Pedullà, who noted that the club is preparing to push for the centre‑back, putting them ahead of Napoli in the race. The Italian side’s director of sport, Cristiano Giuntoli, previously negotiated Todibo’s aborted move to Juventus.

West Ham secured Todibo from OGC Nice in 2024 on a loan that carried an obligation to buy for a total of €40 million. The deal fell through with Juventus after personal‑term negotiations collapsed, a discussion that involved Juventus director Cristiano Giuntoli, now Atalanta’s director of sport.

Todibo remains under contract with West Ham United until June 2029, giving the Hammers leverage in any potential transfer. Olympique Marseille’s interest adds another layer of competition for Atalanta, which must meet West Ham’s valuation to secure the defender.

Napoli, meanwhile, appear to be shifting focus toward other defensive options, with Federico Gatti of Juventus and Chelsea’s Benoît Badiashile mentioned as alternative targets. This suggests Napoli may not prioritise a direct bid for Todibo.

The next steps involve Atalanta intensifying negotiations while West Ham evaluates offers in light of their relegated status. Obstacles include competing bids from Marseille and the need for a satisfactory agreement with the Hammers before any move can be finalised.
