AS Roma's million‑euro bid for Feyenoord's Read shakes Rotterdam
At the Rotterdam training ground this morning, AS Roma submitted their first offer for Feyenoord right‑back Givairo Read, a bid that reportedly exceeds Nottingham Forest’s earlier proposal which the Dutch club rejected. The offer arrived at 08:16 today, according to FR12, and could push the transfer fee above the €30 million minimum Feyenoord seeks.
The precise amount of Roma’s proposal has not been disclosed, but sources expect it to top Nottingham Forest’s offer. Nottingham’s bid was linked to a contract running until mid‑2031.
Read had indicated he would have personally accepted the English club’s terms, suggesting a willingness to move abroad. Nevertheless, Feyenoord have not agreed to the Forest deal.
In Rotterdam, club officials view the 20‑year‑old right‑back as a key player for the upcoming season and are keen to retain him. They hope to keep him at De Kuip for the 2024‑25 campaign.
Read has expressed openness to a move to Rome, and the Italian side aims to outbid Nottingham. Roma’s interest follows the Premier League club has halted its pursuit. The Italian club hopes to secure the defender before any alternative emerges.
Nottingham reportedly submitted three offers, all of which were rejected, prompting the English club to search for an alternative target. Feyenoord are demanding a minimum fee of €30 million for the defender.
Earlier this winter Bayern Munich and Newcastle United also showed interest, but a lingering injury curtailed those negotiations. In the previous Eredivisie season Read managed only 16 appearances due to recurring injury problems.
