Arsenal spend €40m on Premier League hopeful Christos Tzolis

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball Editorial ·

Arsenal, seeking a dynamic replacement for departing winger Leandro Trossard, have turned to Greek international Christos Tzolis. According to David Ornstein, the London club have agreed a €40 million fee with Club Brugge to secure the 24‑year‑old, whose recent Belgian Pro League form suggests he can bridge the creative gap.

Tzolis finished the 2025/2026 campaign as Club Brugge’s key man, scoring 22 goals and providing an astonishing 29 assists as the Belgian side claimed their 20th league title. His contributions included three goals and five assists in the Champions League, underlining his ability to perform on Europe’s biggest stage. The winger also topped the league in chance creation among his positional peers.

Before his Belgian success, Tzolis spent a season in Germany’s 2 Bundesliga with Fortuna Düsseldorf, where he netted 24 times in 37 appearances, a tally that placed him far above the competition. Despite the club’s dramatic play‑off loss to Bochum, the plan had been to trigger a €5 million purchase option to retain him. The failure to gain promotion forced Düsseldorf to sell, and Club Brugge stepped in.

His breakout year came earlier at PAOK in the 2020/2021 season, delivering 15 goals and six assists across 46 matches. Subsequent loan spells at Norwich City and FC Twente failed to produce impact, prompting a move that revitalised his career. The lessons learned in Düsseldorf helped him rediscover form at Club Brugge.

The Belgian Pro League’s physical nature should ease Tzolis’s transition to the Premier League’s rigour, a point Arsenal’s scouting staff have highlighted. His technical ability, combined with proven performance against top European opposition, suggests he can adapt to English football’s pace. Moreover, his proven temperament in decisive moments aligns with Arsenal’s demand for reliability.

While Tzolis may not replicate Trossard’s consistency, his capacity for moments of magic—turning games with spectacular goals or assists—offers Arsenal a different attacking dimension. Throughout his spells at Düsseldorf and Brugge, he repeatedly delivered game‑changing contributions, earning the nickname ‘Greek magician’ among supporters.

All eyes will now be on whether the 24‑year‑old can translate his Belgian exploits into Premier League impact for Arsenal next season. The €40 million investment hinges on his ability to become a reliable creative outlet and justify the club’s strategic shift.
