Another exciting signing: Dundee land Slovenia U21 midfielder Besir
Zan Besir, the 25‑year‑old Slovenia Under‑21 midfielder, has signed a two‑year contract – with an option of a third – with Scottish Premiership side Dundee, joining the club’s pre‑season camp in Hungary. The move follows his switch from Primorje after their relegation from the Slovenian PrvaLiga, and the signing was announced with a [Getty Images] photo of Besir during his final PrvaLiga match.
Head coach Steven Pressley explained that Dundee beat a number of other clubs to secure the "exciting signing" of Besir. He highlighted that the midfielder’s experience in Slovenia’s top flight and his youth international background made him a valuable addition after Primorje’s drop.
Besir told the Dens Park website: "Dundee is a massive club, with great fans and great ambition, so for me it was a very easy pick and I'm looking forward to it." He added that he knows the Scottish Premiership is a very tough league and sees the move as a big step in his career.
The player began his career with Koper in his homeland and first joined Primorje in 2023 after loan spells with Dekani, Gorica and Tabor Sezana. He moved to Nafta 1903 in January 2024 but returned to Primorje six months later, making 35 appearances last season – all but three as starts – scoring five goals and providing three assists as they finished second bottom of Slovenia's top tier.
Pressley concluded: "Zan is another exciting signing for the season ahead. There were a number of other clubs interested in him. We were able to get him out to Budapest to join us, which was a great way for him to integrate with both staff and players." The midfielder now prepares for his first Scottish Premiership campaign with Dundee.
