Anan Khalaili’s Inter move in doubt after medical setback

🇧🇪 By 4AllFootball Editorial ·

Anan Khalaili is in Milan for medical tests ahead of a potential €32 million move to Inter Milan. But the routine procedure has taken an unexpected turn, with reports of complications emerging during the examination.

The Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise stands to gain a record fee for the 21-year-old Israeli right-back, whose departure is now clouded by uncertainty. Inter had initially tabled a €23 million bid, only to raise their offer to €28 million—plus bonuses that could push the total to €32 million. Union Saint-Gilloise rejected the first proposal but appeared close to accepting the revised terms.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the medical examination revealed issues that require further testing. The Italian club has scheduled additional assessments at the Institute of Sport Medicine and Science of the CONI early next week. Inter remains determined to complete the deal but faces fresh delays.

Union Saint-Gilloise will monitor the situation closely. The club has resisted pressure from multiple suitors, including Italian and English clubs, to secure a valuation of at least €30 million for Khalaili. His current contract at the Parc Duden runs until 2028, and he has already delivered 8 goals and 11 assists in 99 appearances since joining from Maccabi Haifa in July 2024.

Khalaili’s impending transfer is tied to Denzel Dumfries’ move to Real Madrid. The Dutchman’s exit has created a vacancy at Inter, and Khalaili is seen as the heir apparent. The Israeli international has already claimed every domestic trophy in Belgium: the league title, the Belgian Cup, and the Super Cup.

Gianluigi Longari, a local journalist, confirmed Khalaili’s arrival in Milan. The player is expected to undergo medicals within 48 hours of landing, but the complications have pushed back the timeline. Union Saint-Gilloise has not yet finalised the deal, despite the improved financial package from Inter.

Sacha Tavolieri, monitoring the transfer market, noted that Inter’s revised bid matched Khalaili’s Transfermarkt valuation of €23 million. However, Union Saint-Gilloise has held firm, insisting on €30 million including bonuses. The club’s stance reflects its reluctance to sell its key asset without securing a premium return.

The medical setback casts doubt over whether the transfer will proceed as planned. Union Saint-Gilloise will await the outcome of the additional tests before making a final decision on Khalaili’s future.
