A scar to learn from: Xabi Alonso reflects on Real Madrid stint

The Spanish coach arrived at Chelsea after a playing career littered with trophies and a spell at Bayer Leverkusen that earned him widespread praise for his tactical work.

His recent experience deviates from the usual success script: a short, frustrating tenure at Real Madrid that he describes as a scar on his otherwise glittering résumé.

During the interview, Alonso adopted a reflective tone, analysing the daily life of a star‑filled squad and the challenges of managing diverse personalities.

He noted that Chelsea is still correcting issues from recent seasons, including frequent managerial changes and a high volume of signings, as the club seeks to consolidate its rebuilding process.
