£7 million midfield boost as Everton sign Christian Norgaard

Everton have completed the signing of 32‑year‑old Denmark international midfielder Christian Norgaard from Arsenal on a two‑year contract, reportedly for £7 million. The deal arrives as the Toffees secure the player in the final year of his Arsenal agreement and will join the squad immediately.

Everton are looking to strengthen their midfield ahead of the new Premier League campaign. The club sees Norgaard as a versatile addition to the central area.

Manager David Moyes has been targeting seasoned professionals to fill the void left by recent departures. He specifically aims to replace Seamus Coleman and Idrissa Gueye, who left the Toffees over the summer.

Norgaard was omitted from the Gunners’ squad for a friendly against Real Betis on Wednesday. His exclusion highlighted limited playing time at Arsenal.

Everton chase midfield stability with Norgaard signing

Before joining Arsenal, Norgaard spent six seasons at Brentford, captaining the side and making 196 appearances. Arsenal acquired him from Brentford last year for a reported £15 million.

In his final year at Arsenal, Norgaard managed only 20 appearances across all competitions last season. Seven of those came in the Premier League as Arsenal secured their first league title in 22 years.

Norgaard said he was “very intrigued” about the project after speaking to manager David Moyes, adding, “Coming here just makes that feeling even stronger.” He also praised Everton’s progress, stating, “I think the club is moving in the right direction and last year was proof of that.”

Everton’s summer activity also included the arrival of central midfielder Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough for £16.5 million. Twenty‑year‑old winger Tyrique George joined from Chelsea for £18 million, having spent the latter half of last season on loan at the Toffees.

The Norgaard signing gives the Toffees a versatile midfield option ahead of their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace at home on 22 August. It also offers the Denmark international a better chance of regular top‑flight football after limited opportunities at Arsenal.
