€50 million bid puts Rodri in Real Madrid’s midfield plans

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball ·

Real Madrid have submitted a verbal €50 million offer to Manchester City for midfielder Rodri, a deal the Spanish giants say could be finalised within hours, and the 30‑year‑old English Premier League star is already the favourite target to bolster Jose Mourinho’s midfield this summer.

Rodri, aged 30, is a Premier League regular whose defensive acumen and passing range have drawn attention from several top clubs, and his profile fits the description of the player Real Madrid are seeking.

Mourinho’s side has been identified as needing a deeper midfield presence, and Rodri’s attributes match the tactical requirements set by the coach, making him a prime candidate to reinforce the midfield department.

Club president Florentino Perez initially vehemently opposed signing the veteran, but he has now given the green light, conceding that the acquisition is much‑needed and reflecting the urgency to address the midfield gap.

Los Blancos have already spoken to Rodri, and the next major step is negotiations with Manchester City; the offer was first relayed by El Larguero, which reported that Thursday is expected to be a decisive day for the talks.

Real Madrid’s proposal is valued at €50 million, while Manchester City are reportedly seeking close to €70 million for the Spaniard, giving the Premier League side leverage but describing the opening bid as comfortable.

Rodri is in the final year of his contract, meaning Manchester City have limited negotiating power as Real could wait a year and sign him for free; at 30, his injury record has raised concerns, prompting Madrid to aim for a low fee.

If the deal closes quickly, Real Madrid will secure a star midfielder to strengthen Mourinho’s squad, while Manchester City risk losing a key player without compensation next season, echoing the flash signing of Marc Cucurella earlier this year.
